This is the 4th book in the Sinners Anonymous series and is the first book in the duet story of Gabe and Wren. I adore the Sinners Anonymous series. It's one of my favourite mafia series: well-written, intriguing plots, iconic MMCs and FMCs, witty banter, and explosive chemistry. Every book in the series feels better than the last.

I was so excited for Sinners Atone. The release date had been moved around multiple times, and we've been waiting for the release for 3+ years. The small glimpses of Gabe and Wren had me frothing at the mouth for their story.

But honestly, this book was a huge letdown. Literally nothing happened the entire book. When I finished the book, I went back and re-read it because I was convinced I accidentally missed a few chapters by inadvertently skipping ahead on my Kindle. There's a ton of poetic prose and detailed descriptions, along with an absence of the actual plot.

This book was like me trying to meet the word count on my 3000-word paper that I started writing the night before it's due. I understand that this is a duet and we'll get a lot more plot in the next one (I hope). However, when I compare this book to the first book in Rafe and Penny's duet, it's incredibly disappointing.

It needed more interactions between the two leads as well as more plot. This book felt more like a prologue than an actual book. There were glimmers of interesting threads that I wish the author had explored more in this book. I don't want to give any spoilers, but instead of six million pages of Gabe's inner monologue about how he was a monster, I wish we had more of his backstory because the glimpses were so interesting.

Some things that I did enjoy about the book:

  1. The prologue was phenomenal.
  2. I loved the interactions of the cast from Wren's and Gabe's perspectives.
  3. Rafe and Wren's interactions and Gabe and Rory's interactions were adorable.
  4. Tayce is a goddess, as usual.
  5. Wren, being unaware of the Visconti family's real business, surprised me and set up an interesting plot for the next book.
  6. The peeks of Wren's real personality and backstory has me sat.
  7. Gabe's backstory
  8. The plot twist at the very end of the book 👀

Final thoughts: If you're a fan of the series, I'd suggest that you read it if you plan to read future books in this series. I'm holding out hope this book was an aberration and that the next one will be a lot better. In the meantime, temper your expectations.

Rating: 2/5. This book is the equivalent of "This meeting could have been an email"
